This article explains how to use the Current Positions table to easily monitor your overall market exposure. This table consolidates all your positions for a security into a single line item, providing a cleaner and more summarized view of your portfolio.

Locating Your Current Positions Table

You'll find the Current Positions table on the dedicated Trades page, under the Current Positions tab.

Table Structure and Grouping

The Current Positions table streamlines your portfolio view by grouping all individual trades of a single symbol. Instead of seeing a separate row for every buy or sell transaction, the table combines them into one summarized row.

  • How it Works: All your trades for a single symbol are grouped based on the Position Type (Long or Short) and the Symbol. For example, all of your "buy" trades for Apple (AAPL) will be combined into a single "Long AAPL" row, while any "short sell" trades for AAPL will be grouped into a separate "Short AAPL" row. This ensures each unique combination of Type and Symbol appears only once.

What the Table Shows You

Each summarized row in the table provides key information about your position:

  • Type: The position type Buy/Sell (Long) or Short/Cover (Short).

  • Symbol: The ticker symbol.

  • Exchange: The exchange where the security is traded.

  • Quantity: The total number of shares you hold for that grouped position. This value is a sum of shares from both brokerage-linked and manually entered trades.

  • Total to Open: The total cost to open the entire grouped position. This is the sum of the cost basis for all trades in that group, combining data from both your brokerage and manual entries.

  • Current Value: The total market value of the grouped position, updated daily with the latest market data.

  • Unrealized Gain: Your current gain or loss for the position, calculated as Current Value minus Total to Open.

Visuals and Interactions

The table is designed for clear and simple interaction:

  • Color-Coded Gain/Loss: The Unrealized Gain value is color-coded for instant visual feedback:

    • Green: If the gain is positive.

    • Red: If the gain is negative.

    • Grey: If the gain is zero.

  • Trade Options: To perform actions like closing a position, simply click the horizontal ellipses icon (...) on the far left of the row. This will open the "Trades Options" menu, giving you access to all relevant actions.

Highlight

By grouping your trades into a concise Current Positions table, you gain a cleaner, more efficient view of your total exposure to each security, making it easier to monitor your portfolio and manage your positions from a single, organized interface.
