This article explains how to use the Profit by Month graph on your dashboard. This visual tool provides a clear breakdown of your realized profits (or losses) for each of the last six months, giving you a consistent overview of your recent performance.

Locating the Profit by Month Graph

You'll find the Cumulative Profit graph prominently displayed on your dashboard, typically under the Open Trades Value graph.

What the Profit by Month Graph Shows You

The Profit by Month graph is a bar graph that displays the Total Realized Returns for each of the past six months. This includes the current month and the five preceding completed months. Each bar represents the total profit or loss from all trades that were closed within that specific month.

Key Characteristics:

  • Six-Month View: The graph always shows six bars, providing a consistent historical snapshot.

  • Monthly Focus: Each bar represents the aggregate profit/loss for that entire month.

  • Based on Close Date: The realized returns are calculated based on the exact date a trade was closed.

Dynamic Data and Automatic Updates

While the first five bars of the graph (representing the five completed months) are static, the sixth bar, which represents the current month, is dynamic. It updates automatically in real-time or near real-time every time you close a trade, ensuring you always see the most up-to-date profit for the ongoing month.

Important Note: Unlike some other dashboard elements, the Profit by Month graph is NOT affected by the Date Range Selector. It always displays data for the last six calendar months, regardless of what date range you select for other dashboard components.

Visual Indicators: Green for Profit, Red for Loss

The graph uses intuitive color-coding to help you quickly identify profitable and unprofitable months:

  • Positive Profit (Green): Bars representing months where you had a positive Total Realized Return will be displayed in green.

  • Negative Profit (Red): Bars representing months where you incurred a negative Total Realized Return (a loss) will be displayed in red.

Highlight

By utilizing the Profit by Month graph, you gain a clear, consistent view of your month-over-month trading profitability, enabling you to identify trends and assess your recent performance at a glance.
